A young Portuguese bullfighter suffered irreversible internal injuries that led to death when his bare-handed stand-off in front of a 1,100lb beast went horribly wrong.
26-year-old Fernando Quintela, 26, suffered the injuries in front of a horrified crowd at the bullring in Moita, a district of Lisbon, Portugal.
According to reports, Quintela acted as a 'forcado', one of a group of men who perform a traditional part of bullfights in the country.
Their job is to challenge the bull with their bare hands, by standing in front of it and egging the animal on.
They are also requested to make the bull run towards them, before one of the group member will grab its head whilst the others jump on top of it.
